Michael "Muki" Baum

A psychologist internationally known for her pioneering work in the
treatment of people with autism and other complex disabilities,   Dr.Nehama Baum, has a dream.

The seed was planted in the late 1950’s during her undergraduate studies in social work, with a specialization in family therapy for families who had a child with Cerebral Palsy. In 1959 her vision grew in intensity when, in a twist of fate, her son, Michael (Muki) Baum was born with Cerebral Palsy and deafness.

Nehama’s dream is for people with autism, developmental and emotional / psychiatric disabilities to be able to develop their talents, actualize their potential, fulfill their ability, achieve personal growth and become contributing members of society.

In 1979, Dr. Nehama Baum founded MukiBaum Treatment Centres to facilitate this dream. Since then, she has built this non-profit charitable organization into one that provides leading edge treatment to children and adults with complex disabilities.

Over the last twenty-eight years, MukiBaum has turned Nehama’s vision into reality. It has transformed the lives of hundreds of children and adults and, in turn, their families and communities.

While pleased with MukiBaum’s accomplishments, Nehama knows the number of lives MukiBaum has touched merely skims the surface compared to the thousands of children and adults around the world who could benefit from MukiBaum’s leading edge treatments, ground-breaking research and dedication.

Nehama decided it was time to build again – this time, a state-of-the-art facility that would enable MukiBaum to expand its reach to the global community, consolidate much of its’ day programs and administrative spaces under one roof and increase its capacity for specialized after-hours programs for children, parents and families in the community.

In July 2007, construction began at 40 Samor Road, in Toronto. The project is to convert what was formerly a 53,000 sq. ft. retail manufacturing warehouse into MukiBaum’s dream facility.

The Possible Dream Capital Campaign has been launched with the goal of raising $5 million to cover the cost of this new facility, MukiBaum’s Centre For Ability.

Together we have the power to transform the lives of people with complex disabilities.
